is pleased to present to you lucid-light as our Special Guest Artist Feature today
Without further ado, please give a warm welcome to lucid-light and visit her gallery. It's truly moving and beautiful:
1- Could you tell us a little about yourself and when did you start creating digital art?
My name is Eli Vokounova. I am 22 years old, female, Czech. I study Humanities/Liberal Arts at Charles University in Prague and now it's my last semester there. I plan to continue studying master degree at Gender Studies.
I've started creating digital art in 2006. I have no digital art related education, I am a self-taught artist.
2- How did you end up joining DeviantArt?
I joined DA in 2004 for the first time, a friend suggested it to me. I did some drawing back then but I didn't have the patience to practice and get better. I came back in 2006 and started fresh with a new account to present my brand new fractal artworks.
3- What is it that attracts you to digital art?
I love computers and internet. Development of a fractal artist depends on sharing insights with other fractal artists, which can happen only thanks to the internet. Being fractal artist means to be always a part of a bigger picture. That's what attracts me to fractal art, it forces me to open up and communicate with other people because otherwise I'd never get better as an artist.
4- Your gallery is filled with beautiful, transcendental images. Could you tell us about the process that evolves from an idea, into the finished artwork that you upload?
It really depends on the actual artwork. Most of the time I get inspired be music, dreams, weather or anything else. An idea or concept gets stuck in my mind and I try to express it in my artwork. Fractal art, being abstract, is extremely difficult in that matter but I like the challenge. Aside from outer inspiration, sometimes I feel very strongly about something that's going on in my life and I need an outlet for the emotional overload. In that case fractal art becomes kind of an art therapy for me and I create images filled with my emotions.
5- Which are your favourite works in your gallery, and why do they hold a special place in your heart?
My most favourite is "Fly": I had some serious health problems back then that prevented me to live as a normal person. I've created this artwork as an outlet for all my feelings of frustration and depression, which I tried desperately to suppress. "Fly" helped me to acknowledge the feelings and face them. Also, I received a massive support from my fans and friends as a reaction to this artwork, which was equally healing for me.
It's hard to choose next ones because each of my artworks has a special significance for me.
Second most favourite is probably "Elven forest": because I had so much fun doing it. I just love the colours, the texture. It makes me feel warm and safe.
6- Our final question would be: which other artist(s) do you admire on DA?
Again, it's a tough choice. There are so many inspiring artists on DA.
In terms of fractal art, I admire lindelokse and C-91 the most. Their works are always superbly executed, each artwork being a small miracle. They inspire me a lot.
Third is yuumei because she does what every artist should do, in my opinion. She points out social and environmental issues through her artworks, showing society's ugly side, making people reconsider their values and lifestyle.
