Hi, everyone
Here is our second exciting interview with the winner of the Solo Feature competition (which you helped vote for last week!)
Without further ado, let's move onto the christoskarapanos interview!
1- Could you tell us a little about yourself and when did you start creating digital art?
My name is Christos Karapanos, I am 32 years old and I am from Greece. I had always had a very good relationship with painting but I started to occupy more seriously when I bought my first computer in my 24 years, because digital art could give me more options and possibilities. I started working mostly with photomanipulations as it was an easy way to learn how to use Photoshop. I am self-taught in free-hand drawing, drawing generally and Photoshop. I mainly work about subjects of the world of fantasy and I am influenced by mythology, metal music and fairy tales. I have made book covers, illustrations, cd covers, tattoo designs and game artworks, with the intention to transform fantasy to reality through my works.
2- How did you end up joining DeviantArt?
I accidentally found deviantart in 2007 while I was looking for brushes through internet and I decided to make an account in order to show my drawings. With time I was learning more things and I was becoming better so people started to know me.
3- What is it that attracts you to digital art?
As I already said, fantasy is what intrigues me. Since I was a child and I was seeing the cd covers of all the great metal bands like Iron Maiden, I was so excited that I was filling pages and pages with their drawings. But if you take a look on my gallery, you will not notice only scaring drawings. I also make drawings that children like, that show another aspect of fantasy, more childish with a dose of humor.
4- Your gallery is filled with beautiful, transcendental images. Could you tell us about the process that evolves from an idea, into the finished artwork that you upload?
I have been influenced by different artists. According to my mood I can start a drawing and leave it there semi finished for days, even months. I always draw what intrigues me that moment. My ideas can be a result of an accidental observation. For example, about one of my drawings (Move dammit), that shows the sun that pushes the moon in order to come the dawn, I had seen a tablecloth with suns and moons and I instantly came up to this idea, I created exactly this scene, as you can see it, in my mind. I like to alternate light and dark and I think that this is obvious in the majority of my drawings.
5- Which are your favourite works in your gallery, and why do they hold a special place in your heart?
1.
This is one of my most difficult works and I love the result.
2.
It shows an epic battle with strong effects. It could easily be a cd cover of a metal band.
3.
I like to combine terror and humor.
4.
I love the mythological bird phoenix.
6- Our final question would be: which other artist(s) do you admire on DA?
They are so many!
DavidGaillet
the details of his drawings is astonishing.
charliebowater
I really like her style in the characters.
ldiehl
I am truly influenced by her style.
Thank you for the interview and the opportunity to show my work.
Chris.
